Much like action points or character points, character chips are a system which allows players to buy themselves a little bit of additional effort or a little bit of fate for their characters so that they may fulfill their own destinies. Chips need not be turned in at the end of an adventure. You keep them. You are encouraged to keep your Character Chips in your dice bag.

The Jakal Wastes were once a part of the greater Burning Wastes which were a lifeless, irradiated region for thousands of years. The group pulled into the train station at Hallow's Breeze after two days of relatively slow rail travel. This is the short short version.
The group made their way south along snowy terrain with Smeg and Inga as its guides. They found a caravan destroyed and its people murdered along the way.
